Student Experience Center Permaculture Garden

Oregon State University

During my two year role as Landscape Projects Coordinator at Oregon State University, I had the opportunity to design and install a permaculture food forest in the heart of the campus outside one of the newest buildings, the Student Experience Center. First, I recruited small group of core students to apply for the funding for this project. After developing a budget, timeline and preliminary design for the garden, we were awarded approximately $2,000. We then teamed up with the Permaculture Design course at OSU to create several design options. Finally, we obtained permission from multiple campus departments to proceed with construction. In addition to a wide variety of plants, features in the SEC Permaculture Garden include:

  1. Raspberry trellis

  2. Raised strawberry bed

  3. Compacted gravel pathways

  4. Interpretive signage

Before I graduated, I worked with the media team to develop interpretive signage for the garden. I also created a long term maintenace plan to pass down to the future generations of student permaculturists that would take my place.
